Pausing to reflect empowers us to see how reason, compassion, and cooperation can influence our response. Consider Proverbs 16:32 - "Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city."
Try this: Next time something or someone upsets you, pause. Silently count a few deep breaths and watch your urge to react slip away. This can take three seconds, three days, or any other amount of time. Keep asking yourself, "am I reacting?" until your answer is no. Then consider the most compassionate response.
